- Summary
- Wayne Shilkret was a photographer who worked for Hurok Attractions, Inc., a booking and promotion agency managed by American impresario Sol Hurok. Shilkret subsequently worked as a photographer for the Philadelphia Orchestra. The Wayne Shilkret photographs consist mostly of dance, music, and opera photographs taken in the 1960s and 1970s. Subjects of the photographs include ballet and dance performances, military tattoos, and circus performances; individual ballet dancers, conductors, violinists, pianists, and opera singers; and Sol Hurok himself. There are a large number of images of the Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi's prima ballerina, Maya Plisetskaya. Photographs are mostly contact sheets and negatives, though there are some enlarged prints. A small number of photographs taken by photographers other than Shilkret are included in the collection. The collection also contains printed promotional material, including ballet programs and a poster of Mstislav Rostropovich.
