  • The manuscript is a composite of two distinct volumes (fols. 1-50; fols. 151-146) made in the early thirteenth century for Weingarten Abbey in southern Germany.
  • Main scribe, ca. 1220; scribe B, s. XIV?; scribe D, s. XIII? Two artists. Repairs to parchment with embroidered silk thread (similar repairs in M.710). Vellum tabs on fore edges as place markers. Leaf between ff. 98 and 99 omitted in foliation.
  • Contains the temporale for the weekdays of the last week in November. The main section of the ms, containing the Sundays of November and the other weekdays of that month, is St. Petersburg, National Library of Russia, MS Lat. F.V.I. 133.
  • Layout: 10 long lines visible, and 2 columns, 24 lines ruled whit stylus.
  • Decoration: Large opening initial in black ink. 15 historiated initials. Initials in red, or red and yellow; others in red, blue and green. 19 elaborately decorated initials in many colors. On ff. 144v-146v, simple decoration in red only.
  • Script: Large archaistic minuscule and cursive.

  • Written at order of Berthold, abbot of Weingarten (1200- 35), as was his sacramentary, now NY, Morgan Library, M.710. Remained at Weingarten until 1781. Collection of Lord Vernon; his sale (1918) to Maggs. Morgan M.710 now dated to ca. 1208-1215, but present ms. to ca. 1220, perhaps after the Weingarten fire of 1215, for the reconsecration of the church in November 1217.

  • Bound in 16th century Germany, wooden boards and tooled leather. Leather stamped with panels showing King David, Paul, etc. Leather clasps and brass hinges (one missing) in shape of lion mask.
