  • Inspired by the suffering of Italy in wars, Guilelmus de Nobilibus composed these poems (never published) to describe the sack of Rome and to implore Francis I of France to restore order in Italy.
  • Layout: Written in up to 15 long lines per page, ruled in light ink. Occasional prickmarks and catchword, or trace of catchword, visible.
  • Decoration: 3 full-page miniatures. 7 half-page miniatures showing emblems of King Francis I. Blue and gold initials on opposing-color fields; some highlighted with pinks and greens. 6 full borders. Rubrics in blue and gold.
  • Script: Humanistic.
  • Written after the sack of Rome in 1527.
