Note
  • Marino Grimani, the Doge of Venice who granted this commission, reigned from 1595-1605. F.M., initials on f. i verso in upper border, possibly identifiable as Francesco Moro da Brescia.
  • Layout: Written in 23 long lines per page, ruled in faded brown ink, catchwords visible. Single prickmark just below text space in outer margin. Quinternions are the norm.
  • Decoration: Full page miniature, f. i (verso), with coats of arms; four evangelists in border. Title in gold capitals; 2-line gold initials with penwork. Throughout, 1-line initials.
  • Script: Italic cursive.
  • Artist: F. M.?
  • Other Associate: Francesco Loredan, recipient.
  • In Mariani volume, possible identification of artist whose initials F.M. appear on f. i (vellum, verso): Francesco Moro da Brescia, f[iglio] q[uondam] Giovanni, miniatore, 1561. Possible that this man was painting a dogale leaf ca. 1595-1605?
