- Summary
- The true function of costumes is storytelling, and as such, costumes are an essential tool for every film director. Costumes bring the character on the script page to life, and reveal their history and personality through the fabric, cut, pattern, color and fit. Much like the cinematographer and production designer, the costume designer collaborates closely with the director before and during filming, doing preparatory sketches and wrdrobe tests to ensure the characters are portrayed accurately. There are 14 costume designers interviewed within this volume. They hail from the US, Japan, Italy, and the UK, but each one of them has designed costumes that have captured the imagination of film enthusiasts everywhere, in perfectly expressing the essence of the character that wears them. This book is a crucial and much-needed resource in understanding their complex craft.
