Summary
"Iron Age Communities in Britain examines the lifestyles of the people and the ways in which they developed and displayed their distinctive identities. It explores their many craft skills, including their brilliant decorated bronze-work of the later centuries, and looks at how they traded raw materials and goods with each other and with overseas communities. They were deeply religious and at times warlike - all this can be deduced from the archaeological evidence and from a few references by classical authors. The book also charts the rapid social changes which took place in south-eastern Britain in the first century B.C. as the Romans first became neighbours and then invaders."--BOOK JACKET.
