Summary
"'Howard's fourth goverment' will be the ninth book in the Australian Commonwealth Administration series, the previous two titles of which were also published by UNSW Press. It is an edited, scholarly volume that maps the events and issues which characterised the administration and policy of Howard's fourth and final term of government. Contributing authors include John Uhr, Jenny Stewart, Anne Garnett and John Halligan. Organised into three sections it begins with a group of essays that reflect on changes during the period of review to the institutions of governance covering the public service as well as key governance issues such as privatisation, the management of the Howard Governments Senate majority, and issues relating to accountability and ethics. The second section examines those policy issues that dominated the fourth term such as management of the economy, rural policies (particularly wheat and drought), industrial relations, indigenous policy and foreign affairs. The third section, written by David Adams, focuses on John Howard in his role as Prime Minister."--Provided by publisher.
