- Summary
- Posters manufactured between 1927-1986. The collection has posters that reflect health issues and substance abuse concerns affecting the African American community. Included in the collection are six posters circa 1920 - 1950's, advertising, "National Negro Health Week", sponsored by the United States Public Health Service, with each year's objective focusing on educating and improving health care services and information accessibility in the African American community. The collection has four posters discouraging people from taking illegal drugs and one poster produced by the Black Panther Party advocating the elimination of drug dealers. Another poster encourages defensive healthcare practices concerning Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Also included in the collection are three posters advertising symposia on African American health, medical education and African American related diseases sponsored by the National Black Science Students Organization.
