Summary
The singing of Hold the Fort and an invocation by T. T. Patterson open this meeting of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Ben McLaurin talks about the demonstration which will take place at Lincoln Memorial for civil rights that day and how Negroes are not voting in large enough numbers. There is machinery in motion, he explains, to get Negroes employed on all railroads and to eradicate all discriminatory practices and clauses. T. T. Patterson speaks about the plight of the Black locomotive firemen and stresses that men can only achieve equality by working together. Brother Spates on behalf of the Washington, D. C. Division, greets and welcomes the Brotherhood. Ben McLaurin speaks about a victorious case on the Central of Georgia involving Negro switchmen and brakemen. Joseph Rauh gives updates on various pending and possible cases involving the Central of Georgia Railway, the L & N Railroad, the gauge rule, the right to receive the same job-training as Whites receive, and membership in certain trade-unions.
