- Disc 1 (approximately 49 minutes). Ned Rorem speaks with John Gruen about his exposure to dance as a child including performances by Mary Wigman, Catherine Littlefield, and the Ballet Russe [de Monte Carlo]; his friendship with Sono Osato's family; his impressions of Martha Graham including his experience as the accompanist for Martha Graham's classes; an anecdote about Erik Hawkins; his first compositions for dance including his Lost in fear, which he wrote for Marie Marchowsky; Rorem reads aloud from while commenting on his memoir: Recalling Martha, a chapter in his book Music and people, 1968 [ends abruptly but continues on disc 2].
