Summary
  • Disc 1 (approximately 48 minutes). Vera Stravinsky speaks with Genevieve Oswald about the artistic and personal relationship between George Balanchine and her (late) husband, Igor Stravinsky, including their first collaboration for the Ballet russe, Rossignol [Le chant du rossignol; now known as The song of the nightingale]; the ballet Apollo; how they worked together; reminiscences of Serge Diaghilev including his respective relationships with Stravinsky and with Balanchine; Balanchine's ballet Stravinsky violin concerto; an anecdote about Serge Lifar; her thoughts on various ballets made to Stravinsky's music including Agon, The firebird, Rite of spring, and Jerome Robbins' Les noces [ends abruptly but continues on disc 2].
  • Disc 2 (approximately 50 minutes). Vera Stravinsky continues to speak with Genevieve Oswald about George Balanchine and her (late) husband Igor Stravinsky; her personal life including Stravinsky's final illness and death; her current projects; personal aspects of Balanchine including a description of his apartment and Easter dinner at his home; his former wives including Tanaquil Le Clercq and Vera Zorina; Karin von Aroldingen and Suzanne Farrell; more on her relationship with Stravinsky and his children; Lillian Libman [ends abruptly].
  • Disc 3 (approximately 14 minutes). Vera Stravinsky continues to speak with Genevieve Oswald about her (late) husband Igor Stravinsky and George Balanchine, in particular Stravinsky's personal qualities.
