Biography
Playwright. Ed Shockley, a native of Philadelphia, PA, began to be recognized as a writer while he was attending Columbia University. He was the recipient of the Chiappe Award of Excellence in the Arts. Shockley was associated with the Frank Silvera Writers Workshop and the Black Spectrum Theater, both in New York City. His "Bessie Smith, empress of the blues," was the AUDELCO (Audience Development Committee) Best Musical Production of 1981, and 1st of the Best of the Silvera Years Series, 1981.
