Summary
Former New York City Ballet dancer Melissa Hayden discusses leaving New York City Ballet for American Ballet Theatre early in her career, her impressions of Lincoln Kirstein and rejoining NYCB after having a child. She describes the joy of working with George Balanchine, the emotional content in Balanchine's choreography, Balanchine's sensitivity to each dancer's personal style and Balanchine's technique class. She speaks about dancers she admired, her impression of the Company today and her own teaching at North Carolina School of the Arts.
