  • Cassette 34, side A (ca. 49 min.). The recording includes Frederic Franklin's comments made in reference to selections from the correspondence files of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Discussion as to the possible fate of what is referred to as the Diaghilev collection, with specific reference to a letter to Julius Fleischmann [a patron of the company]; Franklin speaks about his copy of the score of Giselle and scores of other classical ballets; Serge Lifar, Boris Kochno, and their dispute regarding Diaghilev's estate; seeing [Lubov] Tchernicheva in revivals, by Ballets Russes du Col. W. de Basil, of Fokine's ballets Cléopâtre and Thamar; other ballets that came from the Ballets russes [of Serge Diaghilev] including Leonide Massine's ballet Oda [referred to in the interview as Ode], [Anna Pavlolva's?] Papillon, and Massine's ballet Three-cornered hat [referred to in the interview as Tricorne]; U.S. audiences in the company's early years of touring; George Balanchine's use of alternative music in a section of Swan lake; different versions of Giselle's third act; Balanchine's ballet Cotillon; more about the letter to Fleischmann and his relationship with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo; the proposed merger in 1938 of the company with the Ballets Russes du Col.
