  • Cassette 33, side A (ca. 50 min.). The recording includes Frederic Franklin's comments made in reference to selections from the correspondence files of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Franklin speaks about Sergei Denham and their relationship over the years, including his first meeting him in London in 1937; Denham's increasing involvment with the artistic direction of the company, including his bringing Ruth Page's ballets into the repertory; his fund-raising activities; Denham and Nina Novak; the end of his professional relationship with Denham; Denham as a person; more on Denham's fund-raising activities; the role of George Balanchine in ensuring Franklin's increased artistic responsibilities; Franklin's establishing of an understudy system; the relationship between Denham and Julius Fleischmann [a patron of the company]; anecdotes regarding the support staff, including stage hands and the orchestra, on tour; Franklin's teaching dance classes in Yorkshire; Denham and the income derived from ballet souvenir books; the company's income tax problems. [Ends abruptly.]
